“I dreamed I was awake”
When I sleep I rest, when I dream I don't.
Any dream on any night is pleasant, disturbing, and mysterious. Those fortunate enough to live to be 75 will spend 25 of them sleeping and dreaming.
We cannot renounce this intense and prolonged life experience, because while we dream, we live, we feel joy, and we suffer; just as when we are awake, these experiences are even richer for not having physical, moral, or rational limits.
It's necessary to contemplate those years of dreams as a fundamental part of our journey through this world. That's why I want to recount my journey, still thankfully unfinished, in this exhibition, in which each of the works is part of that ambiguous, abstract experience, full of sensations, sounds, and shapes that unfold while I dream.
Many visual artists valued dreams as a fundamental part of creativity, and they were incorporated into their works as an essential narrative for developing their work. From Goya to Kurosawa, Chagall to Buñuel, and many others, artists reflected their personal experiences of dreams in their works. Without a doubt, their creations would not have been the same without the dreamlike universe that so nourishes creativity and life itself.
